Motorways in UK: M11 (London - Cambridge)

M11 is a motorway in England, running from northeast London to northwest of Cambridge. M11 became well-known in 1995, after the „M11 link road protest“ – a major anti-road protest opposing the construction of the M11 Link Road (A12 Hackney to M11 link road).

Another incident involving M11 was a plane crash, in June 2002. Then, a plane could not land at the Imperial War Museum's Duxford Aerodrome and run off the end of the runway and down the embankment on the motorway. The pilot lost his life.

This motorway, with a length of 55 miles, passes through three counties: Greater London, Essex and Cambridgeshire.

The various parts of the M11 motorway were built between 1975 and 1980: in June 1975 the Harlow-Stansted section, in April 1977 the Redbridge-Harlow section, in November 1979 the Stansted-Stump Cross section and in February 1980 the Cambridge Western Bypass.
