In 2013, the
Daimler factory from Beijing, China, built 120 000 Mercedes-Benz cars. Rene
Reif, the head of manufacturing at Beijing Benz Automotive declared that, by
the end of this year, production capacity in China will be about 140 000 cars.
But that’s not
all of it! Reif told also to the press that, if customer demands call for it, Daimler
can expand the production capacity at its Beijing plant to 350,000 vehicles a
year.
This year,
Daimler started the production of the new C class model in Bremen, Germany, and
the company intends to produce it also in United States and South Africa.
According to official
dates, last year Daimler sold 2.3 million vehicles and employed a workforce of
275.000 people.
The Frankfurt-based
analyst Juergen Pieper said in 2013, related to Daimler’s business in China,
that „ Daimler has begun a catching-up process and is taking the right steps
now“ and „ they didn’t prioritize the market as Volkswagen or BMW did a couple
of years ago. Daimler is now correcting this mistake “.
It seems that
the corrections already succeed and Asia becomes a very important piece of
Daimler's global expansion strategy.
